Life is a continuous ride of ups and downs with various lengths of smooth sailing in between. For some of us who have lived long enough to face – and survive – many challenges, we learn that to go through a happy period is a privilege.
When life rewards us with a happy occasion, it serves us well to savor the moment and all the emotions that come with it. When we find ourselves caught in a difficult situation, we just have to bear it and accept that all things come to pass. When we say goodbye to someone, to something or to an important chapter in our lives, we must have faith that this could just make way for the arrival of someone or something completely new.
Not all endings are sad. Some are bittersweet, allowing the sentimental in us to look back to our past experiences with fondness. For the eternally positive spirit, endings are exciting. The end signifies the beginning of a whole new adventure with many surprises.
Graduation is both a time of parting and celebrating. Having been there ourselves, we feel for our kids when we see them bid farewell to their friends and their school, which has been their second home for many years. But from our experience, we know that the true friends we made will remain. We may meet new people, but our always-there-for-us childhood companions will carry us through life. Lessons learned are remembered through memories we shared with these special persons.
Just like Clara Olé, these life lessons, cherished memories and real friendships will be with you from beginning to end, and all over again. For this season of endings and beginnings, we want to pay tribute to our all-time favorite food. The pizza is a popular choice we enjoyed with our friends and barkada – during those long days of study groups, sleepless nights of cramming, or hours and hours of bonding – because it’s predictably satisfying.
“EVERYTHING ON IT”
1 (12-14-inch) frozen pizza dough (thin crust)
3 tbsp butter or olive oil
1 cup Clara Ole Filipino Style Pasta Sauce
or your choice of pasta sauce
½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
½ cup pepperoni, salami, ground beef, ham,
sausage slices or your choice of meat topping
1 big white onion, sliced into circles
1 green bell pepper, cut into strips
2-3 tbsp mushrooms, sliced
1/3 cup pitted black olives
1/2 cup pineapple chunks, sliced
Thaw out the pizza dough. Pre-heat oven to 240 Celsius. Brush baking pan with olive oil. Spread butter or olive oil over pizza dough, followed by Clara Ole Filipino Style Pasta Sauce, or your choice of pasta sauce. Spread cheese, meat, onion, bell pepper, mushrooms, olives and pineapple chunks. Bake for 10 minutes or until the crust is brown and crisp, and the cheese starts to bubble. Let it rest in the oven for 3-5 minutes before serving on a platter. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with dried oregano, basil and ground black pepper.
NOTE: Do not overload pizza dough with toppings or it will become soggy and won’t cook through (especially if it’s thin crust).
